Another Win For Aloha!
Foodservice
technology company wins second prestigious 2001 Microsoft RAD
Award
June 5, 2001 -
BEDFORD, TX – Aloha Technologies, makers of Aloha
point-of-sale software and information solutions, announced
today that they have been awarded a second 2001 Microsoft
Retail Application Developers (RAD) Award for their
ground-breaking enterprise management solution, Aloha
Enterprise.com. This award, which took the honors in the
category of Best Back Office Application, is the third
Microsoft RAD Award that Aloha Technologies has won.
This March, Aloha
Enterprise.com won the European RAD in the category of
Hospitality/Food Service. In 1997, Aloha won the Microsoft RAD
award domestically for its Windows-based point-of-sale (POS)
solutions, TableService and QuickService. The RAD Award
recognizes application developers who make the best use of
Microsoft technology to provide business benefits to customers
in the retail industry.
The latest award was officially
announced at a ceremony on June 27 at the Microsoft Technology
Dinner at the HITEC trade show in Orlando, FL. The dinner took
place at Delfino Riviera restaurant, located inside Portofino
Bay Hotel, both of which utilize Aloha software.
"It is a tremendous honor
to receive two RAD awards within the same year," said
Manny Negreiro, Aloha Technologies' CEO and president.
"Aloha Technologies is committed to providing
cutting-edge business technology to the foodservice and
hospitality industry and winning these awards just cements our
reputation for excellence."
Past Awards
This latest honor marks the fourth Microsoft award Aloha
has received since the company was founded nine years ago.
Aloha was also awarded the 1998 Microsoft Certified Solution
Provider (MCSP) Award for Best Information Management Solution
for its Aloha Supersite product. This POS solution, which was
developed for large-scale applications such as airports,
stadiums, theme parks and malls, utilizes Microsoft SQL server
as an integral part of its system. Aloha Supersite is
currently being utilized in New York City's Madison Square
Garden, "the world's most famous arena." The install
consists of 200 terminals residing on a single server and a
customized network which interfaces with MSG's network. At the
time of installation in 1997, this was focal point for the
world's largest single Microsoft SQL Server-based
point-of-sale installation. Aloha Supersite is also installed
in Universal Studios Orlando.
Universal Studios Florida
Aloha Technologies recently reached a landmark POS number,
with both Aloha TableService and QuickService operating on 450
terminals within Universal Studios Orlando. This premier theme
park is divided into two basic parts: two theme parks --
Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure - and a 30-acre
entertainment complex that features well-known restaurants and
popular nightclubs such as Emeril's, Margaritaville, Hard Rock
Cafe and Pat O'Brien's.
"The thing we like best
about Aloha is ease-of-use and functionality," said Randy
McCann, senior vice president of food services for Universal
Orlando. "We used to spend at least 24 hours training
people how to use our old system and now it only takes two
hours. The programming is so easy that just about any of the
staff can make necessary changes. It's just an unbelievably
easy-to-use system."
ASP technology and the hotel industry
In another industry
landmark, Aloha Technologies is launching its ASP (Application
Service Provider) solution Aloha Enterprise.com in the hotel
industry. "Traditionally, the hospitality industry has
not taken advantage of the benefits that ASPs offer,"
said Bill Grant, executive vice president of worldwide sales
& partnership strategies for Aloha. "Our
award-winning ASP streamlines operations and increases
profitability for restaurants every day, and we'd like to
provide that kind of cutting-edge technology to the
hospitality industry." A graduate of the School of Hotel
Administration at Cornell University, Grant has nearly 25
years of experience in the foodservice and hospitality
industry, including financial and account management. Grant
serves as a member of the Cornell Society of Hotelmen and is a
frequent guest lecturer at Cornell University.
International expansion
Aloha Technologies also recently announced aggressive
international expansion plans, including the establishment of
extensive reseller networks in Europe, Asia and South America.
"We already have installations in more than a dozen
counties," Grant adds. "Our reseller channel in
Europe is already doing exceptionally well, and we expect the
same out of our South America and Asia theaters very soon. We’re
forecasting our international efforts will account for more
than 50% of our sales by the end of 2003." Major O’Connor,
director of business development – Asia Pacific, heads up
Southeast Asia development based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Bernard Schwentick, director of business development –
Europe, is based in Frankfurt, Germany. And Manny Pegado,
director of business development – Latin / South America, is
currently based in Miami, Florida.
"Aloha's win of the
European RAD this March demonstrates our commitment to
expansion into the international marketplace," said
Grant. "We're very proud that our ASP has been recognized
for excellence overseas."
