Abacus Attends FRLA With Radiant Systems
Abacus was pleased to attend with Radiant the recently concluded Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Show held in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center. The FRLA Show is the largest foodservice show in the Southeast. Over 15,000 foodservice professionals attend, visiting the over 1200 exhibiting companies in the convention space of 120,000 net square feet. The show draws from the approximately 25,742 eating and drinking establishments, an estimated Florida market of $72 billion.

Abacus also attended the FRLA Gala, which the company helped to sponsor, to celebrate the show's success on Friday night at the Hard Rock Universal.

Radiant Model P1220 Diskless Terminal
As most longtime computer users know, hard disks are the single most challenging hardware component in a POS system. That's why the Radiant Model P1220 is unique in that it offers diskless operation.

Built specifically for harsh retail environments, including the hospitality industry, the P1220 is a versatile, small footprint POS terminal based on Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology architecture.  With solid state storage and with no moving parts to fail, the terminal offers high reliability. Added to that is the fact that it has no fan, so operation is silent. Finally, power consumption is low, so the unit operates much cooler than other terminals.

Biometric Option. And now the 1220 has gotten a new biometric fingerprint reader as an optional feature. The biometric fingerprint reader is completely integrated into the product and offers increased speed and accuracy in employee identification and verification. Other optional features include parallel port, wireless, and powered USB (24V) to maximize flexibility.

Video Surveillance Attacks Shrink
Shrink is a $27 billion retail headache that is getting worse. With every dollar recovered from shrink, the bottom line receives it as profit. Video surveillance attacks shrink and improves customer service by offering a combination of innovative solutions that reduce shrink and improve customer service—all in one product.

The product is exciting because it allows video to be captured side-by-side with Aloha transactions. Abacus offers an integrated POS and video solution that joins digital recording with the capturing and data mining of POS transactions. The search tool combines fast and easy search of archived video with the POS operation; each transaction and the accompanying video appear on the same screen. Using up to 36 cameras, data can be scrutinized on up to 60 different items, such as date, time, server, transaction type and amount. Suspicious transactions can be identified for alerts. The system is especially attractive for multi-location businesses because numerous locations can be monitored in real-time from any Internet connection.
