Typical Back of House (BOH) Fileserver System Configuration

Abacus has many years of experience in the installation and maintenance of POS systems—we're the experts, so you don't have to be. From our knowledge of optimizing systems for POS environments, we can carefully select and integrate hardware that performs reliably and with little maintenance, at affordable prices.

Abacus doesn't force you into hardware choices with features that you don't want or need, reducing your expenses significantly. However, if you want specific features—greater processor speeds or more complex operating systems, for example—we can supply those features. Abacus will even install            Typical system; actual hardware may vary, depending on

Processor Speed: Abacus selects and installs fileservers that easily meet or exceed the Aloha minimum hardware requirements. We don't recommend cutting-edge performance because Aloha doesn't need it and it simply costs you more. However, if you believe you need more computing power, Abacus can readily supply it.

Dual Swappable Hard Drives: The worst thing that can happen to a fileserver is a hard disk crash. Abacus recommends and installs dual hot-swappable hard drives in its fileservers to reduce data loss to a single day. Each night, the fileserver images the day's business data to the redundant hard drive. In the event of a disk crash or other failure to the primary drive, merely swapping the drives restores the system to operation until corrective action can be taken. (Note: Abacus only images the primary drive at installation. Should you subsequently install application programs on the primary drive, these applications and their data may be lost.)

Dual Network Interface Cards (NIC) for Broadband Service: Increasingly, businesses are turning to DSL broadband services to increase speed and flexibility in business communications. To eliminate downtime and facilitate maintenance services, Abacus recommends and installs dual network interface cards in its fileservers. Should a problem arise, simply swapping ports keeps the system up and running until corrective action can be taken.

Dual Modems for Dial-up Services: Many businesses continue to use economical dial-up services in their business communications. To eliminate downtime and facilitate maintenance services, Abacus recommends and installs dual modems in its fileservers, one internal and one external. Should a problem arise, simply swapping ports or installing a spare external modem keeps the system up and running until corrective action can be taken.

Virus Protection: Abacus recommends and installs routers/firewalls to protect you online. Abacus believes the best way to deal with viruses is to simply avoid them. Defeating even one virus attack that could jeopardize your business will easily pay for the associated hardware.

Other: Abacus supplies you with everything you need to stay up and running, such as a CD RW for offsite storage of your important data. We also pay attention to details, such as supplying two keyboards: they're inexpensive, but difficult to live without. In a restaurant environment, it's easy to damage one.
